About

Sophie graduated from the Royal School of Needlework in 2008, having mastered more than 30 hand embroidery techniques including silk shading and goldwork.

Sophie’s passion and undeniable talent for embroidery is displayed through her hand embroidery classes, extensive range of kits and original works. The culmination of Sophie’s hard work and desire came in 2011, when she was invited to be part of the team to work on Kate Middleton’s much publicised wedding dress.

In 2013 Sophie published an exciting new embroidery book – Mastering the art of hand embroidery. Sophie left her job in the Royal School of Needlework commercial studio and went into the world of self employed. This exciting leap was a dream come true, Sophie was now able to focus on commissions, book writing and teaching.

In 2014 Sophie had her first solo exhibition, set up a number of new classes, including The Royal School of Needlework satellite in Exeter, Devon.

In 2017 Sophie had her 2nd book published – Ribbonwork embroidery – signed copies of this book are available from Sophie, it can also be ordered on Amazon.

You may then have noticed that Sophie went a little quiet and the amount of classes Sophie taught reduced slightly, this was due to the birth of her daughter Ivy in 2017 and then the birth of her son Otis in 2018.

Sophie is now balancing motherhood with embroidery, continuing to teach in a number of Surrey venues, teaching private embroidery and taking on commissions. To follow Sophies’ work please follow her on Instagram – @Sophieembroidery or on Facebook – Sophie.

In any spare time, Sophie also works on commissions – if you have any queries/questions please email  – s.l.long@hotmail.co.uk
